PM Congratulates Cambodia on Winning "Open Source Adaptation of the Year Award"

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has congratulated the Ministry of Economy and other relevant ministries and institutions on "Cambodia Data eXchange (CamDX)" wining the Open Source Adaptation of the Year Award 2022 from the Future of Government Awards, co-organized and sponsored by AWS Institute, UNDP, and Apolitical.

Prime Minister Hun Sen has stated that this award is another point of pride for Cambodia, as it recognizes the country’s efforts to seize opportunities and successfully utilize digital technology. He positively noted that CamDX supports the work of government reform and contributes to the process of modernizing its administration.

"Under the umbrella of peace, Cambodia not only has the opportunity to build a lot of physical infrastructure but is moving towards building a vibrant and environmentally friendly economy and society," he said.

The Prime Minister of Cambodia called on all ministries and institutions of the Royal Government and encouraged the private sector to participate in maximizing the benefits of related technologies within the CamDX ecosystem.

Cambodia won the top honor among other well-known nominees from Canada, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Pakistan, Guinea-Bissau, Argentina, the Philippines, and Benin with 17 international judging panels in 2022.

CamDX was developed and launched by the Techo Startup Center of the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Standing for Cambodia Data eXchange, it is a unified yet decentralized data exchange layer between information systems that offers a standardized and secure way to provide and consume services

As of 29 November 2022, CamDX has helped 19,823 companies online with a total registered capital of US $5.6 billion over an average period of eight working days only. At the same time, the number of data exchange operations on CamDX has reached about 13 million.

During the Covid-19 outbreak, CamDX also helped the Royal Government launch a Validation Application on Guarantee/Invitation (VAGI) system to facilitate the travel of businessmen and investors.

CamDX is expanding its reach in the financial sector, both banking and non-banking related, through partnerships with the National Bank of Cambodia, microfinance institutions, private banks, and insurance companies.

The current members of CamDX in the business registration framework include the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Commerce, the General Department of Taxation, the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, the Council for the Development of Cambodia, the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and the Real Estate Regulators, and Mortgage of non-bank financial services authority.

The Global Travel Assessment System (GTAS) of the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia is also exchanging data on this platform with airline companies.
